CM Sonowal Hints of Lockdown in Assam if Situation Worsens


Guwahati: Amid rising COVID-19 cases across the state, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal appealed before the people of Assam to stringently adhere to the COVID protocols in order to avoid any kind of lockdown in the state.

Speaking to media persons, CM Sonowal said, “Looking into the present situation, we have already issued directives which shall remain in force till April 30, 2021. We request the citizens of Assam to strictly adhere to the COVID-19 protocols in order to lessen the crisis situation. We are not in favour of imposing any lockdown in the state, but, if the current situation continues to deteriorate, then we might have to go to that stage as well.”

As on April 23, the state has recorded a jump of 2,384 fresh COVID positive cases. The total number of active cases now stands to 12,595.
